Frequently Asked Questions
1. How much does it cost?
Membership dues are $19.00 per student ($9.00 state, $9.00 national, and $1.00 accident insurance). Adviser contributions are optional.
2. When are membership fees due?
All affiliations must be received by December 1 to qualify for the $19.00 rate. After December 1, membership fees are $29.00 per student. If a student is participating in Power of One, STAR Events, or attending the State or National Leadership Conference, their membership fees must be received by March 1.
3. What about new students second semester?
New students are eligible for the $19.00 rate if they are affiliated by February 1. Because National FCCLA processes our memberships, chapters pay the $29.00 rate, and Michigan FCCLA reimburses the chapter.
4. When are the conferences?
Michigan FCCLA hosts a Fall Leadershp Conference, and the State Leadership Conference in the spring.
Registration for the Fall Leadership Conference is $25, and the State Leadership Conference rate is $90.00.
5. Where is a good place to start?
As a new chapter, it’s important to keep in mind that Michigan FCCLA offers a wide variety of programs and activities. No chapter participates in all of them. Experienced advisers recommend starting small: attend the Fall Leadership Conference to kick off the year with a few students, choose one or two programs/projects that fit well within your curriculum, and bring a few of your most dedicated students to the State Leadership Conference. You can have them present their projects in a competitive event, or participate in the Community Service Challenge or Healthy Lifestyle Challenge event that requires no prior preparation.
The Handbook to Ultimate Leadershpi is an excellent resource to help new chapters get off the ground and running. This is provided to new chapters upon receipt of their first affiliation, or it can be purchased from Michigan FCCLA. Advisers that attend the New Adviser Inservice are also provided a copy.
Michigan FCCLA also offers a New Adviser Inservice in the fall. Registration information is available
here. Another resource offered to new chapters is in-class presentations by the State Coordinator and/or a State Officer. Contact
Brad Schmidt to schedule a presentation.
