I cannot believe how fast this school year has flown by and how fast the summer has snuck up on us. Thanks for making the State Leadership Meeting so wild! It was a great time and now I am looking forward to the National Leadership Meeting just like most of you are. A problem most of us face is paying to get there. Granted, summer is supposed to be about having fun and taking a break from working. However, between the State and National Leadership Meetings, there could be a lot of fundraising going on to cover the cost of your trip. Even if you aren’t joining us in Anaheim this July, the summer is a great time to build up your chapter funds. Your chapter funds could help cover multiple things including activities, projects, trips, and anything else needed or desired.
Working together as a chapter to raise money it both fun and a great way to develop skill building. Synergy is when a group’s combined effect is greater than the sum of individual effects. If your chapter works together as a whole you can get a lot done.
There are several fundraisers your chapter could do during the summer. Some things you want to think about before doing a fundraiser is your location and how many members your chapter has. This will help determine how effective certain fundraisers will be for your chapter.
To make any fundraiser successful you must spread the word. Hand out flyers, put up posters, or even call a local radio station and they’ll be more than willing to inform the community about your fundraiser. Always let people know what you are raising money for, and let them know everything FCCLA does for your community.
Some fundraising ideas you could do this summer include car washes, bake sales, carnivals, or even walk-a-thons. Other great ways to make money are to visit businesses, explain to them what you need the funding for, and ask them to make a donation. You’d be surprised as to how willing some businesses are to donate money, especially since business donations are tax deductible.
Fundraising can be hard work and get stressful at times but don’t give up because it pays off in the end. Good luck and have fun with all your fundraising this summer. Look at it as an opportunity to have a good time while making money. Being optimistic always helps. Hopefully I’ll be seeing you in Anaheim.
