Welcome to the wonderful world of SUMMER. With the summer taking a quick hold, many of you will be thinking about finding a summer job. Summer jobs can be a great way to get involved over the summer, increase your network, and improve your interviewing and resume skills. As summer vacation fast approaches, businesses are soon going to be looking for summer help. The best way to get started with your summer job search is to start, right now, going to businesses where you would want to work this summer. Make sure you talk to the manager or the person who is involved in the hiring, and ask for an application. When you are first filling-out an application, it may seem hard and confusing; but remember, don’t get frustrated. Here are some helpful and easy resume tips to make a good, well-rounded resume.

First, learn how to market yourself and be an asset to any job or business. Telling the employer about yourself and your special skills brings the attention to you. For summer jobs, most employers are looking for an employee who is going to make their summer season easier and more profitable. Make sure that all of your paper work is in on time and completed the best that it can be. Also allow for extra time because the employer may ask for extra paper work, such as references, letters of recommendation, etc.

Next, use good grammar rules, tone, and neat handwriting for when filling out applications. Make sure that all applications and resumes are checked for grammar and punctuation mistakes. By starting, now it gives you the opportunity to ask your teachers for help. If you have problems with some English rules, ask a teacher about helping you with your application or resume. This will allow you to seem more professional and responsible. Getting an application now gives you time to fill out the application, set it aside for a couple days, then come back and over look the application and resume. Also, make sure that your tone is respectful and effective. Having a positive tone can give you the extra leg up that is needed to land your dream summer job. Make sure that you have followed to the letter all instructions from the employer. Also to take the time to put in the employers name, company name, and the values that may be important to the company. Make sure you give 100% to make your application and resume sound. Also, it is always a good idea to keep a copy of the application or resume for the next time that you have to fill one out. By using a template, you can improve on your resume and application skills.

Finally, be as professional as possible. Whether you are going in to pick up an application, drop off an application, or for an interview, make sure you are being seen as a serious job candidate. An important aspect to remember is the phone numbers that you give out to a potential employer. Make sure the answering machine sounds professional; clearly stating your name; and if you will be out of town for a long time, leave the date that you will be back in town. When you go into the business, make sure that that your clothing is appropriate and professional. Making a good impression is important and will set you apart from some of the other applicants.

To conclude, use these helpful tips to improve your summer applications and resumes. Finding a summer job can be very rewarding and can open up many opportunities to improve your FCCLA skills. Use this summer to get involved, and get ready to start a new, fun-filled year of FCCLA.
