Teamwork
At some point in all of our lives, we've had to work as a team. I'm sure we can recall both good and bad experiences that occurred when trying to cooperate with other people. Hopefully the meeting or task went well and everyone stayed on the same page, or perhaps the tone of the group got a little undesirable. Maybe you and your teammates weren't able to meet the objectives that were needed. It's not always a sugar coated experience parents and teachers can tend to make teamwork out to be. Not everyone is going to be accommodating, and road blocks are sure to occur. Let's face it, in order to achieve greatness, you have to be willing to dig in and give it all you've got.
Teamwork is a topic that has been talked about in classrooms, office buildings and self-help books across the nation. For years, authors, teachers and parents alike have been attempting to look at teamwork from a new, "fresh" angle. They want to portray the message of the necessity of teamwork. After all, we wouldn't be the nation we are today without our founding fathers and their teamwork. Why don't we take a look at teamwork from Michigan FCCLA's perspective.
By participating in STAR Events and being an active member in your chapter, you too can learn the importance of teamwork, and put it in to effective practice in your life. Reflect on the year that has passed. Can you think of any time when you found yourself down in the dumps and you had nowhere to go but farther down? Perhaps your project took a wrong turn and you weren't getting along with one of your fellow members...how did you make it through? Did you do it all on your own, or did someone step up and give you a hand?
For me, teamwork has played a key role in my success with FCCLA. I used to believe that I could go anywhere in life as long as I had faith in myself. Now that I am closing in on my fourth and final year in FCCLA, I realize that I am simply not enough - without great teammates, I can go nowhere. Confidence in yourself is always important, but in order to reach life's highest goals, teamwork is essential.
There is no doubt that working as a team can be difficult. All the variations in strengths, weaknesses and different personality types can sometimes be challenging to blend together. FCCLA is the perfect example that proves that if you are willing to apply yourself and give it all you've got, success will soon be yours. If you want to be an outstanding team member, don't stop participating in STAR Events, and keep active in your chapter. Challenge yourself this summer to be a better member of any team you're a part of...whether it's a softball team or the team of your family. And remember, when it comes time to get together with your chapter, give it all you've got!
