Power of One
Clare Humphrey, State Secretary

There are a lot of awards that you can receive at the State Leadership Meeting, including the Power of One. Accomplishing the Power of One is not as hard and scary as some may think. It is quite easy once you get started, the real challenge comes from being motivated enough to start this project.

There are five units that you must complete. The first unit is A Better You, this unit focuses on improving your personal traits. This can mean doing something as simple as pamper yourself every week to reduce stress, or getting in shape after those delicious holiday meals. This unit is about you being stronger emotionally or physically.

The next unit is called Family Ties. This unit focuses on the family as a unit becoming closer and stronger. For this you could go on family outings, have a game night with your family and maybe someone else’s, or simply having you family sit together at the dinner table and talk about what is going on in their lives every night.

The third unit is called Working On Working, which is about preparing yourself for the business world. You can apply for a job somewhere in your town, or you can create a business resume to show to future employers.

The next unit is called Take the Lead, this gives you an opportunity to strengthen your leadership skills. You could start a group in your school, or run for a local, state, or even national office in FCCLA, or you could possibly run for an office in a different group like your student council.

Speak Out for FCCLA is the last unit in the Power of One. Write something for your local paper about an activity your chapter did, or make flyers and post them in your school.

There is still time to complete your Power of One! The deadline is March 3. Hopefully this article has given you some ideas about activities you can do. So get up and get going, it’s time to make a difference! More information, and the recognition form can be found on our website here. Let me know if I can help!
