Fit to Fly!
It's not too late to get Out of This World with this year's community service project. To refresh, this year's project is Fit to Fly! and it's all about getting you, your family, and your community healthier. The word healthy encompasses so many meanings, as does the breadth of things you can do to fulfill this project.
Projects can be on things that make people fit.
Hold a Relay: Have chapter members go around the community getting pledges for miles. Then one day set up a camp ground around your school's track and hold a relay for X amount of hours. In the end go and collect the money you earned and donate it to an organization related to Fit to Fly, for example, the Children's Miracle Network.
Projects can be on things that relate to eating healthier foods.
Write a petition to the school board requesting healthier school lunches
Create a food journal and record the amount of protein, carbohydrates, fiber, etc. that you are consuming. Then try to match the amount you eat with the recommended amount.
Become vegetarian for a week, see that difference it makes
Projects can also be on things that are about awareness.
Hold a Seminar: You could do a project on the severity of eating disorders to inform the community and try to prevent such occurrences.
The beauty of this project is, it can easily be combined to make a project that works for the National Community Service project too, Dig It! One of the biggest ideas Cause Creative is pushing for is the Dance Marathon. Children's Miracle Network Dance Marathon was founded by students in 1991. Now it's an entirely student run activity that has spread all across the United States in universities and is now coming to high schools. Students get together all their friends and throw a party. Students dance for 24 hours in honor of the kids at their local hospital. In the end all the money raised goes to the hospital nearest you. It's easy to arrange, and a lot of fun! As you can see, there are many things you can do to become Fit to Fly, so don't wait, make your community healthier with this year's project.
